The Trees is a poem written by Adrienne Rich, a poet who is vocal about our eco-system and gender disparities around the world. She talks about a group of trees in a greenhouse that has been trapped. These might also include the artificial ones. These trees seem to be moving out from this enclosed space. They are moving into the forest. The forests had missed the trees, depriving the birds of their place to lay nests and insects to hide. Since there are no trees, the sun shines bright and does not give out any shadow. The roots of the trees slightly crack, along with the twigs and boughs also moving into the forest. It seems difficult at first, but they slowly pick up. The poet sits inside the room, writing letters. She sees the moon shining in the open sky. The glass is finally breaking with the trees moving out more, and the moon now appears broken as it flashes across the tree tops.
