A report is a specific form of writing. It is an account given of a particular matter, especially in the form of an official document, after thorough investigation or consideration.
A report is usually short and sharp. The main aim of a report is to identify and examine issues, events, or findings that have taken place. It generally analyses a situation or problem, often making recommendations for future action. Since it is a factual paper, it needs to be clear and well-structured.
Types of Newspaper reports:
National newspapers: will report on national issues like war, politics and finance.
Local newspapers: will report the actions and events in areas and tend to lean towards emotional stories.
A report should have:
  • Headline
  • Name of the reporter
  • Place, date and source (the source where the information taken can be mentioned at the end of the report)
How to write a report:
  • The beginning of the report is usually an expression of the headline.
  • The middle paragraph gives the details.
  • It is followed by the conclusion or summing up.
  • The report should be brief, but the headline and the style should be eye-catching.
  • Sometimes important points can be given in a box in the centre of the report.

Student Unearths Einstein Manuscript
 
A newspaper report about “Student Unearths Einstein Manuscript” was released on 21 August 2005. An original handwritten manuscript of Albert Einstein’s has been unearthed at a university in the Netherlands.
 
It was discovered by a school student named Rowdy Boeynik. While he was researching papers, he found that the papers belonging to an old friend of Albert Einstein.
 
The document consisted of 16 pages, and the year it was mentioned in the manuscript was 1924. The document had the fingerprints of Albert Einstein. It contained Einstein’s work on his last theory. The theory was on the behaviour of atoms at a low temperature which is currently known as the Bose-Einstein Condensation.
 
The manuscript was to be kept at Leyden University, where Einstein got the Nobel Prize.
