8. Analysis

The poem 'Speak Gently' emphasises on the fact that kindness and being gentle are characteristics that one needs to follow for the effective functioning and well-being of everyone. It might seem like a very simple poem, but it touches upon numerous significant such as the importance of early childhood in shaping one's adulthood. People most often have a notion that if one were to exert kindness, then they would be taken advantage of. Some people deliberately show rudeness as they believe that speaking gently and in soft tones may make them appear weak. But the poem breaks all these notions as false. Speaking gently brings about peace and calm in all stages of life, from a newborn to an elderly person. We never know what the other person is going through as every person has their own story and reasons. It is therefore appreciated if one speaks gently.
