The passive voice is used when we want to emphasize the action (the verb) and the object of a sentence rather than subject. This means that the subject is either less important than the action itself or that we do not know who or what the subject is.
We form the passive with the verb to be and the past participle of the main verb.
Remember the passive verb forms:
Tenses | Forms | Examples |
| Present Simple | Am/is/are+V3 | The room is cleaned every day. |
| Present Progressive | Am/ is/are being + V3 | The room is being cleaned now. |
| Present Perfect | Have/has been+ V3 | The room has just been cleaned. |
| Past Simple | Was/were + V3 | The room was cleaned yesterday. |
| Past Progressive | Was/were being + V3 | The room was being cleaned when the director arrived. |
| Past Perfect | Had been + V3 | The room had been cleaned by 4 pm. |
| Future Simple | Will be V3 | The room will be cleaned tomorrow. |
| Future Perfect | Will have been V3 | The room will have been cleaned by 7am tomorrow. |
