Book Free DemoPlace value can be defined as the value represented by a digit in a number based on its position in the number. Every digit in a number has a place value.
The place value of ones digit is the same unit digit number. The place value of tens digit is the tens digit number times 10. The place value of hundreds digit is the hundreds digit number times 100, and so on.
Example:
We have a number 423.
This can be written in place order as follows:
Hundreds (H) | Tens (T) | Ones (O) |
100 | 10 | 1 |
4 | 2 | 3 |
Place value of 4 = 4 × 100 = 400
Place value of 2 = 2 × 10 = 20
Place value of 3 = 3 × 1 = 3
Important!
Recall the following:
1 tens = 10 ones.
10 tens = 1 hundreds = 100 ones.
1 thousand = 10 hundreds = 100 tens.
1 lakh = 100 thousands = 1000 hundreds.
1 crore = 100 lakhs = 10,000 thousands.
