Factorise the following by splitting the middle term.

(i) \(x^2 + 10x + 24\)

Answer:

The solution is

\((x + 6)\) and \((x + 4)\)

\((x - 6)\) and \((x - 4)\)

(ii) \(z^2 + 4z - 12\)

Answer:

The solution is

\((z + 2)\) and \((z + 6)\)
\((z - 2)\) and \((z - 6)\)
\((z - 2)\) and \((z + 6)\)
\((z + 2)\) and \((z - 6)\)

(iii) \(p^2 - 6p - 16\)

Answer:

The solution is

\((p + 8)\) and \((p + 2)\)
\((p - 8)\) and \((p + 2)\)
\((p + 8)\) and \((p - 2)\)
\((p - 8)\) and \((p - 2)\)
