Show how you would connect three resistors, each of resistance \(6\ Ω\), so that the combination has a resistance of

(i) \(9\ Ω\),

(ii) \(4\ Ω\).

If two resistors are connected in parallel, then their equivalent resistance is

\frac{i}{\frac{i}{i} + \frac{i}{i}} = i Ω

After connecting the third resistor, the equivalent resistance is

Case (ii):

When two resistors are connected in series, then their equivalent resistance is given by

\begin{array}{l} R = i + i \\ = i Ω \end{array}

The equivalent resistance is

R = \frac{i}{i} + \frac{i}{i}

After connecting the third resistor, the equivalent resistance is \(Ω\).
