Consider the lower half of the lens is covered with black paper. Light rays coming from the object are refracted both lower and upper halfonly from the lower half only from the upper half and the image is formed, whereas in the both lower and upper half light rays are allowedupper half the light rays are blockedlower half the light rays are blocked.

 

Similarly the upper half of the lens is covered with black paper, the both lower and upper half light rays are allowedlower half the light rays are blockedupper half the light rays are blocked.
