Book Free DemoIn our day to day life, the things made out of plastics includes polythene bags, buckets, water bottles, mugs, pipes, toothbrush, comb, toys, cups, tables, shoes, bags, parts of automobiles (bus, car), parts of the refrigerator, television, etc. We can agree that it is a bit difficult to imagine our life without plastics.
Things made from plastic are excessive, but the disposal of plastics is a challenging one. Thus plastics becomes a bane. All types of plastic used cannot be recycled, and also plastics do not decompose when buried in soil (non-biodegradable), and thus disposal is a problem.
An excessive use of plastics and disposal of such plastics can harm us and our surroundings as described below:
- One should remember that plastics do not decay. As polythene bags are thrown carelessly on the road, or in open area gets into drain and sewer which clog the gutters. A polluted water overflow and stagnate on the road. During heavy rain, as the drains are clogged, it creates a flood-like situation in the low lying area.
- When a leftover food is thrown away in the polythene bags, cattle end up feeding the waste along with the plastic. This plastic can have a harmful effect, and sometimes the cattle may die.
- Storage of food in plastic items (non-food grade material) can pose a harmful effect on our health.
- Shopkeepers may use plastic bags that have been used earlier for some other purpose.
- Plastics, when burnt, gives away harmful gases. These gases can cause cancer in human.
How to minimize the use of plastic?
2. Usage of paper bags to reduce the use of plastics.

3. Always carry a cloth or jute bag for shopping.

4. Reuse plastic containers to store stuffs in the kitchen and other packed food materials.
5. Give away your old plastic toys to others who can use them.
How to reduce the generation of garbage?
- Kitchen garbage generated can be disposed through vermicomposting in order to generate manure that can be further used as fertilizer for plants naturally.
- Plastic bag and plastic containers must be reused whenever possible.
- Reduce or avoid throwing kitchen wastes and leftover food.
- Never burn plastic.
- Paper should be used on both sides, and all papers must be used. One must encourage the usage of slate for rough work.
- Old books and clothes can be given to others who are in need.
- Used magazines, newspapers, notebooks, etc., should be recycled.
- Always prefer a handkerchief instead of tissues to reduce the use of paper.
- Recycle a plastic whenever necessary.
- Recycle the old and useless objects that are made from metal.
Important!
The disposal of garbage is not only the responsibility of the Government but also the responsibility of every citizen! The necessary steps to must be followed to reduce the generation of waste to keep our surroundings and home clean.
