Forests are being destroyed continuously so that the forest land can be used for other purposes. Forest constantly depleted for its raw materials in the form of industrialization and urbanization. A rise in population creates a competition for food and space.

Causes of deforestation:
  • Forests are cut down to obtain firewood, timber (Used to build houses, furniture).

  • Paper is made from the wood pulp.
  • Forests are cleared for cultivation of crops.
  • The forest land is also used for the construction of roads, dams, houses, industries, etc.
Effects of deforestation:
  • Destruction of forests causes shortage of forest products that include medicinal products, wood, etc.
  • Deforestation creates an imbalance of O2 and CO2 in the atmosphere. As we know that CO2 is used by plants for photosynthesis; deforestation increases the level ofCO2  in atmosphere, and that creates more heat and leads to global warming.
  • Deforestation lets soil erosion, and, which affects the fertility of the soil.
  • Deforestation also increases the chances of flooding of the rivers that lead to loss of life as well as property.
  • Deforestation affects the water cycle, which results in a reduction of rainfall.
  • It causes the extinction of wildlife present in the forests.
  • It affects the earth's climate.
Conservation of forest:
As we saw the alarming effects of deforestation, conservation of forests is of prime importance. The ways to conserve forests includes;
  • The Government must ban an excessive cut down of the forest area.
  • Always create awareness about the advantages of the forest.
  • When you cut down one tree, never forget to plant two more trees to replace the loss.
