Sanctuary is a protected area reserved for the conservation of wild animals. It is the place where the wild animals remain safe. The wildlife sanctuary is a protected area created for the protection of wild animals in its natural environment.
Sanctuary protects and provides a suitable environment and living conditions in the natural habitat.
- Poaching and hunting are strictly prohibited.
- Activities like grazing, collection of medicinal plants and firewood are allowed.
- Threatened wild animals like blackbuck, white-eyed buck, golden cat, pink-headed duck, marsh crocodile, python, elephants, gharialetc., are protected and preserved in their natural environment.
- Indian wildlife sanctuaries have different flora and fauna with unique landscapes - broad level forests, mountain forests and bushlands in deltas of big rivers.

The first forest reserve of India is the finest teak present in the forest. There is the presence of rock shelters which are evidence of the pre-historic life of humans in jungles. The lifestyle of the primitive people who lived long ago was depicted as rock paintings.
Rock paintings depict figures of men fighting, hunting, and playing musical instruments etc. Around \(55\) rock shelters are identified in the Satpura National park, including the tiger, leopard, wild boar, wild buffaloes.

Satpura tiger reserve in Satpura National park is part of the Project Tiger.
