Let us see some important notes on Nylon:
Origin:
Nylon is the first synthetic fibre made artificially using petrochemicals. This was first made in \(1928\) by a group of scientists at Dupont company and was formulated by E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and Co. The nylon is composed of hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and carbon. These chemical units in nylon are called polyamides.
Polymerisation refers to the reaction of small molecules (monomers) combines to form large molecules (polymers).
Example:
Cellulose, Polypeptide chains of proteins, Nylon.
The hexamethylene diamine and adipic acid are mixed to form nylon salt. We have to combine appropriate monomers to form a long chain via a condensation polymerisation reaction to produce the nylon fibre.

Advantages of Nylon:
Nylon can be modified as per requirements and is a long filament with good strength, elongation, and lustrous.
Nylon
Nylon fibres are used widely due to their tremendous advantages, such as exceptionally strong, lustrous, elastic, easy to wash, low moisture absorbency, and many more. They are used in making fishing nets, cookware, track pants, swimwear, ropes for rock climbing etc.
The disadvantage of nylon is that it is affected by sunlight, and insects can damage these fibres, and its resistance to acid is poor.
