Human endocrine system
Pituitary gland
It is a small gland that in the size of pea found at the base of the brain. It is known as the master gland as it controls the functions of all the other glands.
Thyroid gland
These glands can be found at the front of the neck. It produces hormones that influence the body's rate of metabolism.
Parathyroid gland
These glands can be found behind the thyroid glands of the neck and are involved in influencing the levels of calcium in the body.
Thymus gland
It is a gland found in the chest and plays a prominent role in immunity.
Adrenal gland
These glands are found on the top of the kidneys and produce the fight or flight hormone. It is a stress hormone that is helps the organism to either face a dangerous situation or to avoid it altogether.
Pancreas
The islets of Langerhans of the pancreas are endocrine in function as they produce the hormone known as insulin which maintains the sugar levels of the blood.
Pineal gland
It is a gland that is located between the two halves of the brain. It is a pea-shaped gland and secretes a hormone that plays a role in regulating sleep patterns.
Testes
It is a male sex organ that produces hormones in males.
Ovaries
It is a female sex organ that produces hormones in females.
