Desert habitat
Habitats that exist in deserts belong to this category. These habitats are dry, receive scanty rainfall (less than 25cm/yr.).
The plants in this habitat developed special characteristics to overcome excessive heat and very little water availability.
The following are some of the characters desert plants exhibit:
- Thick leaves - to store water and minerals.
- Spines - some plants convert their leaves to spines to overcome water loss through evapotranspiration.
- Long roots - to penetrate the land and reach the ground water source.
- Thar desert is the desert habitat we have in India. Which is located in the state of Rajasthan.
- These habitats receive scanty rainfall less than 25 cm annually.
Grassland habitat
This habitat is characterized by the vast area of grasses. The grasses grow up to a height of 2 meters. For example, Savanna grassland.
