In the previous lectures, you have studied that the computer is an electronic device used to process the data or information which is fed into them and store & retrieve the information.
Look at the picture shown in the below table.
Think a minute about this picture and answer the following questions.
- Whether is it data or information?
Yes, it's pictorial data or information.
- Whether we can recreate the picture on our computers?
Yes, we can recreate. There are several ways to recreate real-world images on our computers.
Drawing:
In this method, the outcome is made of lines that symbolise some form known from reality.
We can create a digital drawing with software that lets the user create dots of various diameters, which transform into lines. Additionally, other features can be used, like colours, erasers, and drawn lines' transformation. Output (finished work) can be then brought into the real world by printing.
Materials used: Graphite, Marker, Ink, Crayon, Paint.
Painting:
We use sharp lines for drawings and blobs/patches of paint for paintings, differentiating it from drawing. Overall, colours, light and shadow, and their shapes are more important than clear outlines.
For painting, we can use oil paint, acrylic paint, ink, watercolour.
Digital Painting:
Digital painting is an upcoming art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolour, oils, impasto, etc., are applied using digital tools using a computer.
Digital painting is an upcoming art form in which traditional painting techniques such as watercolour, oils, impasto, etc., are applied using digital tools using a computer.
The artist can create a digital painting by using the painting techniques directly on the computer. All digital painting programs are using various brushes and paint effects to replicate what the physical media does. Many application programs have brushes that are digitally styled to describe the typical style like oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoals, pens and airbrushing.
- How can you create the images on your computer?
We can design, view, and edit pictures on our computers through software. (Software and its types are discussed in the previous exercise)
- What are all the software available to process the images?
- Corel Painter
- Adobe Photoshop
- Art Rage
- Tux Paint
