The impact of Religious Movements:

The Religious movements which took place during the Medieval period paved the way for a cultural and linguistic revolution across India.

These movements also played a crucial role in shaping the thoughts and behaviour of people from all walks of life.

1. Social Impact:
The Bhakti movement rooted out the social evils like Sati, caste discrimination etc. which were plaguing the society. Through their devotional songs and poems, the Bhakti saints proliferated the ideals of oneness among the people.
They also established equality by creating common kitchens and eating meals together without any class strata.

The Status of women witnessed new heights during the religious movements, which allowed them to participate in assemblies equally with men.

2. Religious Impact:
The Religious movements brought cultural harmony among the Hindu and the Islamic communities of India.
Sufi saints adopted many religious practices from various religions, while other Bhakti proponents like Kabir emphasised unity among the dominant religions in India.

Peace, Religious tolerance and devotion were the tenets vociferously stressed by the poems and texts of the Medieval period.

3. Linguistic development:
The vernacular languages reached their zenith under the Bhakti movement as northern languages like Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic dominated the oblivion.
The saints of the Bhakti movement preached their ideas in vernacular languages, attracting more people. Various local languages like Bhojpuri, Gujarati and Bengali found their prominence.

The language of Tamil witnessed its peak under the Bhakti movement as more saints, and invaluable literature rose during this period.
