9. Summary

The poem "Rain on the Roof" by Coates Kinney describes a rainy day where the poet describes the process of enjoying the rain and recollecting one's thoughts. He begins by narrating the events that precede the rainfall. He talks about dark clouds hovering above like a shadow. Although there is a melancholy in the air, he says that it is the right time to take a moment to stay in his bedroom and enjoy the sound of the rain. He observes the sound of the patter of rain and feels it like an echo inside his heart. The rain makes him recollect all his memories and revives his old dreams that he had fantasised about. The poem then  takes on a sad tone, as he is reminded of his mother, who had passed away. She had showered him with unconditional love. Thus the rain brought in a lot of memories that had stayed repressed in him.
