3. Introduction

The lesson "A Birthday Letter" was written by Jawaharlal Nehru. He started writing letters to his young daughter, Indira, in the summer of 1928 from various prisons in British India. The letters were published in 1942 as a book called "Glimpses of World History". It was a collection of 196 letters.
