8. Reading. Global warming

Global warming is one of the most urgent ecological problems nowadays. It is the warming of the planet's temperature caused by so-called greenhouse gases that absorb sunlight. The scientist all over the world are concerned about the problem.
Global warming is responsible for drastic climate changes over the last \(100\) years. The main reason for the warming is industrialization.

Air pollution is another consequence of technical progress. Millions of factories and plants burn fuels and release unreasonable amounts of \(CO2\). Exhaust fumes from planes and vehicles using gasoline and kerosene make up to \(50\) percent of greenhouse gases destroying the ozone layer of our planet.

All this throws the climate out of balance. The dire consequences are draughts, forest fires, melting of ice caps, plants and animals affected by the changes of their natural habitat, people suffer from health issues — the list is long.

We should try to improve situation if we want to live on the planet. It depends not only on international organizations and governments, it depends on every and each one of us. Recycling, reducing the use of plastic and carbon footprint are steps that every person can take to preserve the beauty of our only home.
