Explain the following:

a. Reactivity of \(Al\) decreases if it is dipped in \(HNO_3\).

It's because an oxide layer is formed on its surface.
It is due to the formation of a nitrogen oxide layer on its surface.
The reactivity of \(Al\)
Hydrogen gas formation decreases the reactivity of \(Al\).

b. Carbon cannot reduce the oxides of \(Na\) or \(Mg\).

Because \(Na\) or \(Mg\) are strong reducing agents.
The reactivity of carbon is less than \(Na\) or \(Mg\).
It is because carbon is a non-metal and \(Na\) and \(Mg\) are metals.
\(Na\) or \(Mg\) are strong oxidising agents.
