A few chemicals are used in the disinfection procedure to remove the microorganisms in the water. The essential disinfectants used are iodine gaschlorine gasbromine gas, chlorine dioxide, and oxygenozoneargon.
Chlorine is the most suitable disinfectant. Chlorine gas kills microorganismsaquaorganismsmacroorganisms by dehydration.

Therefore, the two chemicals used to disinfect water are chlorine and ozone.
